Imagine, everything about you already being set at or before birth. This is an overstatement but there have been studies done that prove that temperament could have possible already been chosen when born. From what I get, who you are now is a construct of nature vs nurture working together. I was reading a book a while back called Quiet:The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking by Susan Cain, and in part of the book she pretty much implied that your temperament is already decided at birth.
Cain referenced a study that done experiments on kids from birth until they got older and found that the children who cried (other conclusive out comes showed different evidence besides only crying) during a test turned out to grow up more sensitive to the world/ environment became introverted. When I say sensitive I mean to things like sound, smells, five senses really. Even being around a lot of people. Which is like the definition of introvert or even a hypersensitive person in extreme cases. The extroverts children were more cool and collected in the test for some reason. Some of the test done were exposing them to new environments, popping balloons, or even the parents leaving the kids to play together.
I would like to do a little more digging into this because it’s so interesting to me. It makes me wonder what else about us is already decided and how does the mind work in such ways. People always like to tell us introverts that we should just talk but being an introvert is more than just talking. It’s the atmosphere, mood, weather, sounds, comfort, the opposite of comfort, and many more factors. We are predisposed to feel this way and there’s nothing wrong with it. I believe that every introvert should read this book and pretty much anyone who wants to know more about the subject of temperament introvert or not.
